Istanbul via Moscow - (pt. 1 Moscow)

Posted on April 18, 2007

We have recently learned that having two weeks of vacation end on a Wednesday and then returning to work on Thursday morning is a somewhat painful affair! It has taken us a week but I think we are finally starting to return to reality and recover from our vacation hangover. Although, I must admit that my luggage is still not 100% unpacked… Oh well. Russia was, for the most part, uneventful. The majority of the trip was running around seeing our wonderful family and friends. The last day was crazy but fun as we spent it mostly in Moscow walking around and looking at Red Square and the center shopping and sight seeing.
Red Square! On the left is the GUM Mall and in the middle off in the distance is St. Basils Cathedral, on the right is the Kremlin and the tomb of Comrade Lenin.

This is taken inside the GUM. There are three sections just like this that comprise the whole shopping center. You can find anything and everything designer in this place.

A better shot of the outside of the GUM. It was a palace before the revolution.

Mexican Food. It’s not just for Okies & Texans anymore… It says, “La Cantina”.

A Monument to Minin and Pozharsky

Here is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier located just outside of the Square on the edge of the Kremlin. We also got to see the changing of the guard. Very cool!

Istanbul pics to follow!
